I’ve developed a particular affinity to my new Do & Be shirt. I’ve never owned a top quite like it before, I always say that I only know how to dress from the waist down. Seriously if it were up to me I would pair a simple white tee or sheer blouse with every outfit. But aside from that, the simple fact that the brand is called Do & Be makes it the idea of getting dressed seem less daunting - Especially in this blazing heat. In fact, the idea of doing and being seems to make a lot of things seem easier… And that’s how it should be during summer. But then again that’s how it should always be in life. I’ll leave you to ponder that…

Using a simple household material, salt, as his primary medium, Japanese artist Motoi Yamamoto creates fantastical blizzards and seascapes that touch upon conceptual frontiers. Since Hi-Fructose correspondent Nathan Spoor interviewed Yamamoto in 2009, the artist has had several solo shows that yielded delicate, pristine works that are entrancing to look at with their repetitive and meticulous details. Many of Yamamoto’s works have a labyrinthine structure that the artist describes as “nearly reachable, yet not quite,” alluding to the idea of trying to recall past experiences and coming to terms with the fleeting nature of memory. Take a look at some of Yamamoto’s latest works from his shows at the Bellevue Arts Museum, Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art and the Hakone Open-Air Museum.

LAYLA’S STYLE: I would say my style is definitely colorful but with a classic silhouette.

INSPIRATION: I get inspiration from so many things and people that surround me everyday. Sometimes, it is a picture I see while I am browsing the internet or a magazine. I also get inspiration for many of my outfit posts from runway shows and editorials. Many times, I get inspiration from fellow fashion bloggers. There are so many talents on the world wide web.

HERO: I don’t really have one specific hero. I think in general, my hero is any woman that takes charge of her life and does what she loves, and loves what she does….and is good at it.

HEELS OR FLATS? Heels for sure! Mostly because I am petite.

FAVORITE SUMMER TRENDS: My favorite trends of the summer have been neons, color-blocking, the color mint on basically anything and everything, and floral prints.

SUMMER LOVIN: I am working at my day job as a dentist, writing a fashion book for Houston, and of course, blogging about fashion. I listen to a lot of dance music, like David Guetta, Avicii, and Deadmau5. I am usually wearing my favorite cut-offs or colored skinny jeans, and I am constantly trying out different sunglasses. My favorite pair right now is from Karen Walker.

Carnovsky is an art and design company that consists of two very talented artists Francesco Rugi and Silvia Quintanilla. These artists are based in Milan and have been doing some exciting work entitled RGB. This red, green and blue work is an examination of a surface and it’s underlying deepness. They are not simply static designs but instead they commingle before the eye and “interact with different chromatic stimulus.” This technique is realized by overlapping three primary color images.
